The focus of the illustrated book about a development aid mission in North Afghanistan is not on the realization of various infrastructure projects, but also the documentation of encounters with people from various parts of the Afghan society. The projects presented are examples of the variety of construction measures that have been implemented in the country over the past two decades. The selected photos are arranged as per themes to themes to give the reader an overview of life, international cooperation in a fragile state and the Afghan culture: everyday life, economy, technology, project work ... Expectation, trade, game, principle of hope ... The photo book is a historic - photographic documentation of social, economic and cultural life in Afghanistan before the Taliban seized again power in August 2021. The book texts were written in German and English language, in order to make the book accessible to an international audience. During several project visits, the author met people whose faces were shaped by decades of violence and civil war. And yet one could also see in these faces the hope of a future free of violence for their country. Portrait and landscape photography invite viewers to reconsider the beliefs about Afghanistan and other development countries. They lead us back to the conditio humana. What is our existence about, and how can our awareness, colored in several ways of prejudice, be changed and problems solved by technical projects, education, meetings, communication and social work etc.?
